The fabric used for the diagonal sashing and border looks to be pieced but is actually one blue and brown printed material.\u003cbr\u003e\nThe quilt is in excellent condition. There are several light water marks on the back that do not show through on the front.\u003cbr\u003e\nMade circa 1850; Pennsylvania origin. Many of the elements are stuffed applique. Approximately half of the blocks have inked signatures and\/or inscriptions. Among those that are legible are: Sister Gibson; Baltimore; Sister Freidlay  Love the Lord because he has heard my voice and my supplication; Holy Bible book Sister McNelly; Sister Carr and Sister Cramer. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is most interesting that the quilt has some religious affiliation as each of the signatures is that of a Sister. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNow for the bad news... The quilt does have condition issues. It has been washed and conserved by the Textile Conservation Workshop. They applied fine netting to many of the blocks with damage but some are still uncovered. In spite of its delicate condition, this remains a fine example of a desirable Baltimore Album quilt for a fraction of the cost were it in perfect condition.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMeasurements are  86\" x 100\".  It is well quilted with a variety of floral patterns. The opposing logs are an unusual light fabric with darker diagonal lines giving considerable movement to each block. The front of the quilt is made of wool challis with an unusual cotton print on the back as shown in last thumbnail photo. The quilt has a great deal of drama and lives up to its name of Straight Furrows, a pattern with light and dark diagonal lines. Condition is excellent. There are two small, unobtrusive holes that are visible only with close examination. Measurements are 72\" x 74\".
