This One Patch Quilt is made of manufactured cotton flannel blankets. Beacon is probably the most well known company that made blankets of this type in the early 20th century as well as many with Native American designs.
The assemblage of small patches in this example creates a wonderful painterly effect. The few solid colors interspersed with plaids, stripes and checks beautifully punctuate the design. The larger blocks used for the border make a wonderful frame both because of the size as well as the curvilinear patterns that contrast with the interior of the quilt. The back is a striped cotton flannel. In addition to being a simple but sophisticated design, this piece is soft and cozy. It would make a wonderful bed cover as well as a piece of wall art. It is tied rather than quilted. Measurements are 74" x 84". Condition is excellent; made circa 1930.
