This variation of a Baskets quilt pattern is named Cake Stand for reasons unknown. This example is well pieced and quilted. Each white block is quilted with a floral medallion within which is a heart or a star. The corners of each white block also have a quilted star. It is unwashed condition. There is a light smudge on the upper right second row from the top that is only visible in certain light.
The quilt was documented in the Virginia Quilt Project in 1914. It is from the Heatwole family in Rockingham County, Virginia. Made circa 1880. Measurements are 70" x 84".
