Mennonite Joseph's Coat Quilt; Circa 1880; Pennsylvania

This striking Joseph's Coat quilt incorporates the features most desirable in this traditionally Mennonite pattern. Each color stripe has a different quilting pattern. The diagonal stripe border adds movement to the already bold design. What distinguishes this quilt from others of the same pattern is that it is from Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Other known examples are from Lancaster County.

The checked fabric of the backing is often used for aprons in the last quarter of the 19th century.

The quilt is in excellent condition.
