Elegant and unusual Quaker silk Herringbone quilt dated 1894. The graceful vine of the embroidered border is a nice contrast with the geometry of the pattern. The border is finely quilted with a feather pattern. The quilt is all silk and satin. Several of the strips have been stabilized with invisible netting. The palette is deep and rich, slightly less dark than shows on my monitor.
Chester County, Pennsylvania origin. Measurements are 70" x 77".
