This Feathered Stars Quilt is bold and straightforward. The center of each star is a square surrounded by well pieced triangles for the feathers. The areas where the tips of the triangles converge create a pattern known as Sawtooth. More unusual names for this block are Navaho and Indian Mats. The red outer border is quilted in white thread with diamonds that are about one inch to a side.
The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. The white areas are quilted with concentric circles. Measurements are 68" x 72". Made circa 1890; Pennsylvania origin.
