Strong diagonal lines identify this Log Cabin quilt variation as Straight Furrows. It is made mostly of wool with a few strips of velvet, satin and silk. As is often the case, the silk is fragile and has deterioration in one of the strips. Fortunately, it is in the block next to a printed black and white fabric so it blends visually with that. The rest of the quilt is in excellent condition. The back of the quilt is the same maroon wool as the outer border. The borders are nicely quilted with a cable pattern. Measurements are 72" x 80". Pennsylvania origin; made circa 1880.
