Patriotic quilts were often made at the time a state was admitted to the Union. It seems highly probable that this 49 star quilt was made to commemorate the admission of Hawaii in January, 1959. The flag itself has 16 stars and the surrounding field an additional 33. The fabrics are compatible with this time frame. The quilt has been professionally laundered and is in excellent condition. It is nicely quilted with several geometric patterns. The corner of each outer frame has a quilted heart. The prairie point border makes a wonderful edge reminiscent of streamers to go with the flag. Measurements are 72" x 84" including triangles border; Pennsylvania origin.
