This is a classic Amish Nine Patch quilt with two quirks. Middle top and bottom blocks are done with gray and medium blue instead of the maroon and deep indigo in all of the other blocks. The upper left, second row from the top has a gray band not seen anywhere else. Intentional, I suspect but difficult to say why.
This is a midWest Amish quilt. It is probably from Ohio. Quilting in the off blocks is done with an interesting design that looks like sand dollars. Inner and outer borders are done with cable quilting. The quilt is all cotton; in excellent condition. The backing is a medium blue chambray fabric. Measurements are 76" x 87". Made circa 1900.
