This original pattern appliqué quilt is exquisite in every way. The appliqué and reverse appliqué are detailed and finely done. Hearts embellish the swag border. Elaborate quilting includes various patterns and hearts in the corners. The quilt has been professionally laundered and is in excellent condition. Two ends include large appliquéd letters saying Mary E. Harris March 1860. Mary Eliza Quiery (?) Harris was born in 1836 and married Robert Hemphill Harris on July 5, 1856 in the Steele Creek area of York County, South Carolina. They settled at the home-place of Captain John Harris and his wife Eleanor (nee) Reynolds, Robert's parents, in the Steele Creek area.
