This is a Mennonite version, probably from Lancaster County, of a traditional Hole in the Barn Door pattern. The red and green blocks are nicely set off by the blue background. Several different greens are used and seem to have been placed randomly. The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. There is some minor sun fading to the green outer border but not enough to be distracting.
Several different quilting patterns were used. A wide cable pattern covers the three borders. The blue ground has one inch squares and the red and green blocks are done with straight lines. All of the quilting is done with white thread. The quilt measures 82 inches square. Made circa 1880's.
