Some would call this Canadian Amish quilt a Bars pattern while others refer to it as Chinese Coins. In either case, it is a wonderfully rich, arty design. The front is done in a variety of medium weight wools, most of which are solid colors. Some have subtle patterning including the border which, on close examination, one can see has dark brown and navy squares that are very closely related. Each Bar is made of rectangles with closely related colors that provide depth to the pattern. The use of red in the center effectively draws the eye to the center. The backing is a cotton flannel.
The quilt measures 62" x 78". Made circa 1920; excellent condition.
