The Center Square is the most rare of the classic Lancaster County Amish quilt patterns (the others being Diamond in a Square; Bars and Sunshine and Shadow aka Trip Around the World).
It is quilted with a star in the center surrounded by smaller stars. The inner border is sewn with concentric diamonds that have "pumpkin seeds" in the centers. The small corner blocks continue the stars with the traditional feather pattern in the dark green outer border. The red corner blocks continue the stars. There is an old darned spot about the size of a dime in one of the outer blocks. It is very unobtrusive. This richly colored quilt is all wool. In certain lights, one can see black shadowing in the outer border. It is very close in color to the green fabric and does not show in all situations. Measurements are 76" x 82"; made circa 1920's.
