Stylized parrot earrings by Los Castillo that won first prize for mixed metals at the 1953 Silver Fair in Taxco. The prize was given by the well known artist, Rufino Tamayo who admired the cubist design in which both front and profile views of the parrot's head were seen. The design has been used by Los Castillo on cufflinks; bracelets and rings as well. The design combines silver with brass; copper; black onyx and Mexican jade. The Los Castillo workshop was the first to combine metals in this way.
The earrings measure 15/16" on all sides. Screwbacks can be converted to posts. Condition is excellent.
