This quilt pattern was given the name New York Beauty in 1930 by Mountain Mist, the company that published patterns. Versions of the design existed earlier but had different names.
New York Beauty is a difficult pattern to execute. The round pieces combined with the sharp points of triangles are meant for adept quiltmakers. This version is well quilted with wreaths in each of the white off blocks. The quilt has been professionally laundered and is in excellent condition. One sees many variations of the New York Beauty pattern from the finest needlework to particularly crude examples. All are visually effective because of the powerful design.
