Mariner's Compass is one of the most difficult patterns to execute. This example is particularly finely done. Unwashed condition shows several light smudges that could be removed with laundering but in my opinion, not worth losing that never washed feel. Has one old appliqued, inconspicuous mend visible in thumbnail photo. Beautifully quilted. Measures 88" square; circa 1860.
