Nothing could be more of the moment than this patriotic flag quilt depicting Old Glory. It was most likely made either for the admission of Arizona into statehood on February 14, 1912 or during World War I which took place from 1914 - 1918. In either case, its timelessness remains.
The quilt is beautifully executed with the stripes truly having the appearance of blowing in the wind. The flagpole is done with considerable detailing and the tassel wrapped around it is exceptional. Quilting is done with diagonal lines. Use of the blue background really makes the flag seem as though it is seen waving against the sky. I don't know if this was intentional, but the center of each side of the diagonal stripe border meets in a V. If the quilt was, indeed, made for World War I, perhaps this was meant as a V for victory.
The backing is entirely red, white and blue stripes making this two patriotic quilts in one.
Condition is excellent. Wisconsin origin. Measurements are 66" x 78"
