This unusual Album Quilt is beautifully planned; quilted and appliqued. The central Democrat Rose (aka Rose of Sharon) block is four times the size of the others making a great focal point. Two of the opposing corner blocks are very similar wreaths and the other two corners are repeated thistle-like blocks. Four of the remaining blocks are very finely worked variations of open wreaths. One is "fussy cut" and the others have exquisitely fine embroidery.
The quilting is at least as well done as the applique. It is stitched throughout with double rows of diamonds. The quilt has been professionally laundered and is in excellent condition. Measurements are 83" square. Made circa 1860.
