This quilt most closely known as Shoo Fly (aka Alamanizer) is an unusual combination of elegant and country. The basic quilting; medium thick batting and plaid ground give it a very country feel. At the same time, there is a blue glazed cotton used throughout that is most often seen in far "dressier" pieces. The maker evidently had an eye for detail as in the lower right block, she pieced the same blue striped fabric in four different designs. The quilt measures 82" x 88". Found in Pennsylvania but unclear as to where it was made as the muslin backing does not look like that of most quilts from Pennsylvania. Made circa 1880's.
