Art Smith (1917 - 1982) was one of the most prominent of the Greenwich Village jewelers of the mid 20th century. His work is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and was the subject of an exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum that later traveled to major institutions throughout the country.
Smith often worked in copper or brass but this brooch has the advantage of being made in sterling silver. It has the open, airy abstract quality seen in much of his work. The brooch measures 2 3/8" long and wide. Condition is excellent.
