Streamlined bird brooch by the nonagenarian Modernist designer, Betty Cooke. Cooke is known for her minimal designs that successfully convey the form she aims for. This bird measures 4 inches wide and 2 inches from the bottom of the wood branch on which it sits to the top of the head. It was probably made in the 1960's.
Ninety six year old Cooke is considered one of the icons of the Modernist studio jewelry movement. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
