It's most interesting to see two interpretations of this silver feather brooch done by Antonio Pineda over a 15 year period. The example on the left, which seems the simpler of the two, is actually the later example. It has Antonio's mark used from 1953 until his death in 2009. The brooch measures 3 3/4" wide x 1 1/4" tall. It has two scrolls and is in excellent condition.
The three scroll brooch on the right is signed Tono. It measures 4 5/8" wide a 1 1/4" tall. It is totally three dimensional and has more ornamentation than the later piece. Hallmark dates to the late 1940's - early 50's.
The brooches are priced at $595. each.
Antonio Pineda was one of the important designers of the mid 20th century Mexican silver design movement. Books have been written about him and his work is in the permanent collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
