This dramatic bracelet by Frederick Davis (1880 - 1961) is as unusual as it is beautiful.
The bracelet consists of four silver discs in which are set cabochon amethysts. The links are separated by silver bars, the ends of which repeat the circle motif. The discs are 1 9/16" in diameter. The bracelet has a wearable length of 8 1/2 inches. Although this is longer than the standard 7 inches, it fits a medium wrist. The large size of the discs requires more space to go around the wrist.
The work of Fred Davis is included in the collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and has been written about extensively by scholar Penny Morrill in her books about Mexican silver.
