Exquisite hand hammered sterling silver bowl by silver master, William Spratling. The bowl has an unusual elongated shape with four lobes. The outside has a smooth finish and the inside intentionally shows the hand hammering marks. The footed bowl is 2 3/4 inches tall; 6 1/8" long and 5 1/8" wide. It has been professionally polished and is in excellent condition. The bowl weighs 261 grams.
The bottom bears Spratling's marks dating to the 1940's.
William Spratling is well known as the father of the mid-20th century Mexican silver design movement. Many books have been written about him and his work is in numerous museum collections.
