This is a most unusual pair of sterling silver mint dishes by famed silver designer, William Spratling.
The tops of the dishes measure 2" x 2 3/4". They are mounted on an S shaped base. They are 13/16" in height. The two dishes have different Spratling marks. One is the conjoined script WS with the designation of 925 silver that dates from 1949 - 1956. The other is Spratling de Mexico with sterling across the diameter and Eagle mark 3 (1949 - 1952).
Both are in excellent condition.
William Spratling was the father of the Mexican silver movement of the mid 20th century. Numerous books have been written about him. His work is in the collections of several museums across the United States.
