This is a particularly fine example of an Ohio Amish Open Center Quilt, one of their iconic patterns. While the design is simple, the quilting is elaborate. The center is filled with concentric feathered circles. Around the central medallion are 3 medallions on either side. The blue inner border has leaves with stems. Quilting on the outer border is done with a feather pattern and half round medallions. All of the quilting on the maroon material is done with a light marigold color. Stitching on the indigo is done with dark thread. Both of the fabrics on the front are fine wool. The back is a blue cotton as shown in last thumbnail. Condition is flawless. Measurements are 56" x 80". The quilt has a sleeve for hanging with the narrow side on top but it can be hung from any direction.
Made circa 1920; Holmes County, Ohio Amish origin.
