This striking quilt comes closest to the pattern known as Harvest Sun. It is done in a vibrant solid red fabric throughout. It is beautifully quilted with a variety of patterns that include a feathered border; a variety of flowers and pinwheel type flowers within circles. The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. On the back is what may appear to be a stain and a number. The darkish spot is a remnant of the label from the cotton used on both front and back. The binding is the back turned over to the front making a finely done, narrow edging. To my eye, there is no need to wash the quilt but if one were to do so, the fine stitching would show more prominently. Measurements are 84" x 104", ample for a queen or king size bed. Pennsylvania origin; made circa 1890.
