There are several ways to look at this Amish Hourglass quilt. Initially, one sees light and dark blocks of four hourglasses. Looking more closely, it is evident that the center triangles form a pinwheel in each block as well. Placement of the light and darks gives a nice diagonal going across the entire pattern.
The quilt is all wools with a cotton chambray backing. It is difficult to say in which community it was made but I would venture a guess that it is from Western Maryland. Measurements are 68" x 74". The inner border is quilted with a cable pattern and diagonal lines in the outer border. Made circa 1920's excellent condition.
