What a great way to turn a traditional Baskets quilt pattern into an abstract design. In addition to the bold pattern, it is well quilted with diagonal lines and squares. The unusual curved border is a nice counterpoint to the geometry of both the pieced pattern and the quilting. Condition is excellent. There is some variation to the colors as the fabric may have been home dyed. The backing is a greige solid color.
While the orange and green palette is often associated with southeastern Pennsylvania, this quilt may have been made in Tennessee. It was in the collection of Carole Wahler, a noted historian, curator and collector who was from Tennessee and did most of her buying there.
