Sterling silver necklace by the late Modernist designer, Betty Cooke. A 20 inch necklace of silver tubes has an additional drop that is 6 inches long. There are three discs of textured black lava on the drop and one lava disc on the main part of the necklace. A small silver disc is signed Cooke Sterling.
Betty Cooke was one of the movers and shakers of the mid 20th century Modernist jewelry design movement. Her pieces are in museum collections including the Baltimore Museum of Art; Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum (NY); Cranbrook Art Museum (IL); Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; Museum of Arts and Design (NY); Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Rhode Island School of Design Museum; and the University of Arizona Museum of Art.
