Bowtie blocks merge to form octagons in both the red and white prints in this unusual cradle quilt. I refer to it as a cradle quilt as it is larger than most doll quilts but smaller than most cribs. Measurements are 25 inches square. Regardless of how one categorizes it, the quilt makes an unusual positive/ negative statement. The fact that it is square also allows it to be hung on point making an even more unusual design. The binding is attached by machine with quilting all by hand. Condition is excellent. Made in Pennsylvania; circa 1890.
