This Centennial Charm quilt is outstanding on several counts. Most obvious is the center bandanna from the 1876 Centennial exhibition in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. These bandannas were sold as souviners. This is also a charm quilt in that no fabric is repeated. Some may look alike but on close examination it becomes clear that each is different. It is truly a library of printed fabrics of the time. In addition, the quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. It was likely made as a memorial for a trip to the exhibition and treated with the utmost of care. The border is an unusual glazed chintz with birds. The backing consists of two red print fabrics that include cherubs; deer; dogs and birds.
The quilt measures 90" x 94". Pennsylvania origin.
