This unusual Center Medallion would be described by most as a mother-daughter quilt. The center pieced and appliqued original design was done in the 1860's and the outer frames completed some twenty or thirty years later.
The center is a quirky and original design surrounded by more traditional tulips. The red outer frames are done in a calico print from the late 19th century. The quilt has been professionally laundered. There is a little bit of popping to the red sawtooth border as shown in thumbnail photos. It is quilted with clamshell and chevron patterns. Measurements are 76" square; Pennsylvania origin.
