This beautiful early quilt is totally reversible. While the way the binding is sewn leads me to believe the maker intended the Bars to be the primary side, to my eye, the Wholecloth Chintz is preferable. It is sewn of three panels, each 24 1/2 inches wide with an extra 3 3/4 inches along one side. The shading of the various blue flowers is stunning. The Bars side is made of two fabrics. One is a tiny geometric print and the other is floral. Quilting is done with diamonds throughout. Condition is excellent. York County, Pennsylvania origin; circa 1850.
