It is safe to say that this exuberant Pot of Flowers quilt with birds is like no other. What initially appears to be a colorful abstract collage actually has more of a symmetrical design than strikes the eye at first glance. All four inner corners, for instance, have the same four arm heart design. Pairs of birds facing each other are seen in the middle of each side of the frame around the basket. Two rows of vines with imaginative flowers outline the central basket. All of the applique is outlined with embroidery. The more one looks, the more one finds.
The applique is mostly cotton with some wools as well. Made circa 1860. Measurements are 82" x 85". Very good condition.
