This pattern goes by both the name Crown of Thorns and New York Beauty. It is a difficult pattern to execute with its many curves and points.
The deep blue and brown color combination speak to its Southern origin. The quilt was made in Kentucky; circa 1880. As is often seen in Southern bedcovers, the quilting is done in both light and dark threads. Quilting patterns in the small quarter circles follow the arcs and are done with straight lines in the larger white areas. Condition is excellent. Measurements are 73" x 90". Front is in excellent condition with some discoloration on the back that does not show through to the front.
