What this quilt lacks in needlework skill, it more than makes up for in design. The Bars combined with irregular Four Patches combine to form a very "painterly" composition. There is just enough symmetry with an equal amount of irregularity to create a dynamic pattern. The three Bars are like broad brushstrokes on a canvas. This quilt is both crude and sophisticated. A label on the back indicates it was documented in the Illinois quilt project. With close examination, one can see several small spots, none larger than a nickel.
They are light in tone and not distracting. Measurements are 64 inches square. Made circa 1910.
