Offered for sale is an exquisitely stitched variation of an Ocean Waves quilt done in indigo calico on a solid white ground. The white open fields are finely quilted with wreaths. The outer white border is stitched with an undulating vine. Double sawtooth borders tidily frame the composition. Overall, this "reads" as Ocean Waves but with closer examination, one can see that the blocks of navy blue triangles are actually squares on point facing different directions. The quilt has been professionally laundered and is in spotless condition. Measurements are 70" x 81";made circa 1880.
