This pieced and appliqued quilt is a most unusual combination of patterns. The blocks are geometric tulips with Hole in the Barn Door centers. The close tones of pink and yellow give each block an offbeat look. Both pink calico and solid colors are used. A strong zigzag or Streak of Lightning is created by the placement of the blocks. The border is a more traditional vine with flowers and leaves. The background is an unusual dusty green. It is well quilted with a variety of patterns that include flowers; feathers and leaves with diagonal lines throughout the border. The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. Quilting is done in white thread. The quilt is from Lancaster County, Pa.; made circa 1880. Measurements are 80" x 82".
