Large Silver Hoop Earrings with Amethyst Discs; Circa 1950

Bold and unusual silver earrings of large circles within which are cut out circles. They are topped with amethysts, the size of which looks as though they are from the cut out circle. The setting and type of amethyst as well as the overall design of the earring are reminiscent of the work of William Spratling.The earrings are certainly artist made but not signed other than sterling. The circles measure 1 3/8" in diameter. The earrings are 1 3/4" in length including the amethyst. Backs are hinged clips. They are light enough so that they are comfortable to wear in spite of their significant size. Made circa 1950's.
