Sterling silver and 14 karat gold dangle earrings by the late Modernist designer, Betty Cooke. The earrings are representative of Cooke's fascination with the circle and the line. The silver part of the earring is widest at the top and then swirls to the widest at the side. The gold is consistent throughout. The earrings measure 2 1/2 inches in length. Backs are clips. Both earrings are signed. Made circa 1980; excellent condition.
Betty Cooke was one of the movers and shakers of the mid 20th century Modernist jewelry design movement. Her pieces are in museum collections including the Baltimore Museum of Art; Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum (NY); Cranbrook Art Museum (IL); Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; Museum of Arts and Design (NY); Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Rhode Island School of Design Museum; and the University of Arizona Museum of Art.
