This Log Cabin with an abstract center is like no other. The outer two rows are solid color red and white Courthouse Steps blocks. The interior is a fabric collage of pieced and applique blocks with crewel embroidery and French knots. The outer edge of the frame is a chain done with two delicately embroidered rows of interlaced French knots. The interior consists of totally irregular pieced and applique designs. The quilt is from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; circa 1870. It is illustrated on pages 94 and 95 of Jeanette Lasansky's "Pieced by Mother". The quilt has been professionally laundered. The interior is in very good but not quite perfect condition. The design is so dense that one has to look closely to see the condition flaws.
