Lone Star (aka Star of Bethlehem and Texas Star) is always a bold, vibrant pattern. This example is more so than many because of the intense indigo ground. The diamonds making up the interior of the Star are printed fabrics with the exception of the solid orange used also for the satellite stars and sawtooth border. They small stars and border really "pop" against the solid blue. The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. The backing is the same red calico as used within the Star. Measurements are 80 inches square. The border is quilted with diagonal lines. The body of the quilt is done with one inch squares. The colors of this dramatic quilt are indicative of its Mennonite, Eastern Pennsylvania origin. Made circa 1890.
