This unusual pattern comes closest to one known as Snowflake. The primary difference is that the eight red arms on this quilt look more like fleur de lis than in the published pattern, It's interesting that the orange center flower is surrounded by green ovals that look like leaves around the orange bloom.
The quilt is in outstanding, unwashed condition. The quilting is well done with a wreath in each of the four off block squares, The border is done with a swirling feather. Diamonds fill the remainder of the background. Visually, the diamonds inner border holds the pattern together very well.
Measurements are 80" x 86". The front of the quilt is all solid colors with a backing in a rust color calico seen in last thumbnail photo. Made in either Lancaster or Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. Made circa 1880's.
