What appears initially to be a straightforward pattern quilt is actually more subtly complex. Most of the blocks are the same red print fabric. The center four, though, are a different print as well as solid red that create a central block. Outside each corner is yet another variation of fabrics that are paired diagonally. The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. It is quilted throughout with squares that are slightly more than an inch to a side. Measurements are 77" x 86". Inked on the back is the signature "Mary A. Williams". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1860.
