This glazed chintz quilt has an entirely arboreal theme. Trees are seen with sinewy roots and stylized flowers in between. The quilt measures 58" x 69", an unusually small size for this time period. It does not appear to have been cut down. Quilting of overlapping circles is more obvious on the back than the front. The backing is a plain cotton with some smudges that do not show through on the front. The front is in excellent condition. The quilt has a light glaze. A seam runs from top to bottom. The small size would make this quilt ideal for use as a throw over a sofa or folded at the foot of a bed. Made circa 1840.
