Amish & Mennonite Quilts
Antique Amish quilts from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and the Midwest — made from the 1880s through the 1930s by women of the plain community whose commitment to simplicity, craftsmanship, and color produced some of the most visually striking objects in American art history. Lancaster quilts are distinguished by their jewel-toned wools — rich purples, magentas, blues, and greens — and their three iconic patterns: Diamond in a Square, Bars, and Sunshine and Shadow. Midwest Amish and Mennonite quilts offer a broader range of patterns and a somewhat different palette, often incorporating black. Each piece here has been hand-selected for the quality of its fabric, the ambition of its quilting, and the integrity of its color.
